The Queen of the Tearling is a fantasy novel by Erika Johansen, which was released in 2014.

Plot

Set three centuries after a small portion of the population has traversed to a landmass that mysteriously emerged, the series follows 19 year-old princess Kelsea Glynn, who must reclaim her deceased mother’s throne and redeem her queendom, the Tearling, from forces of corruption and dark magic of The Red Queen, the tyrant-sorceress of the neighboring country, Mortmesne.

Adaptations

The Queen of the Tearling is already set to be adapted into a movie produced by and starring Emma Watson as Kelsea Glynn. The series will be produced by the Harry Potter producer David Heyman and the screenwriter of 'The Revenant' Mark l Smith is set to write the screenplay for the first book in this series.

  • Johansen came up with the idea after hearing a speech from Barack Obama in 2007.
  • The series has been hailed as being "Game of Thrones-esque."
